    NEW: 69th AAST Annual Meeting Preliminary Program

    Acute Care Surgery - Maintenance of Certification (ACS-MOC), September 22, 2010, 8:00 - 11:30 am.

    Recognizing the importance of the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program as outlined by the American Board of Surgery, the leadership of the AAST plans to sponsor a session devoted to Lifelong learning and self-assessmentthrough continuing education and periodic self-assessment (Part 2 of MOC) at the 2010 Annual Meeting. The session is devoted to addressing practice gaps in the area of Acute Care Surgery and will include a multiple choice self-assessment test.

    A continental breakfast will be served starting at 7:15 am.  The testing for this course will be completed online after the course with a demo at 7:45 am.  The session will start promptly at 8:00 am.  Course presentations are:

    • Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infections, Eileen Bulger, MD
    • Assessment and Treatment of Emergent Non-Trauma Thoracic Conditions E. E. Moore, MD
    • An Update on the Open Abdomen, Martin Croce, MD
    • Massive Transfusion Protocols Intraabdominal Hemorrhage, Christopher J. Dente, MD

    The ACS-MOC session will be free for those attendees who are registered for the AAST Annual Meeting, a $150 fee will be charged to those who are not registered for the meeting.  Please see the online registration system or the registration form to register.  


    Trauma Outcome & Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) sponsored by The Society of Trauma Nurses (STN)

    The Society of Trauma Nurses is hosting aTrauma Outcomes Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) prior to the AAST 69th Annual Meeting.  For the first time through a partnership between STN and the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma (COT) Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) program, the session will feature both nurse and physician faculty.

    The TOPIC course is taught as an interactive Modular Format, to best meet the needs of the individual trauma care provider participants who have varying levels of experience with trauma performance improvement.  The course offers practical application for all Levels of trauma centers, from entry level to mature phase of program development.  The Modules are taught with a focus on didactic, operational definitions, sample tools, case study examples and take home points.
