AAST Foundation
The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma Research and Education Foundation was established in April of 1994 by the association's Board of Trustees with the objective to sponsor research scholarships in the fields of burns, trauma, and acute care surgery and to foster advances in education.
To date, the Foundation has supported twenty-nine research scholarships allocating funding to numerous diverse scientific and medical studies throughout the United States. In addition, the Foundation has provided researchers with the necessities to study new fields of trauma and assist in the development of innovative ideas for patient care and treatment.
The Foundation is currently supported by the AAST, private industry donors, and contributions from AAST members. This support has afforded the Foundation the ability to fund four scholarships each year and with further support, the Foundation hopes to expand its funding of projects into other areas of interest such as multi-institutional trials and more scholarships.
The AAST Research and Education Foundation also co-sponsor yearly research scholarships. Companies currently sponsoring research scholarships with AAST are:
- Novo Nordisk with a two-year $50,000/year scholarship
- Ethicon with a one-year $40,000 scholarship
- KCI with a one-year $50,000 scholarship
- NIGMS/ACS/AAST K08/K23 scholarship for $37,500 per year from AAST renewable for five years
Applications for scholarships are available in Scholarship section.
The current corpus of the foundation is $3.2 million. The goal of the AAST Research and Education Foundation is $5 million by 2010.
Contributions to the Foundation are tax deductible and may be made by any individual. Donations should be made out to: AAST Research and Education Foundation. A donation form is available on the website. For more information or to co-sponsor a scholarship, please contact:
