    Learning Objectives:

    This article aims to determine whether post-operative organ space infection is affected by intraoperative irrigation when attempting to control for disease severity using the AAST EGS grade.

    Impact Statement:

    Risk assessment using the AAST EGS grade for common emergency general surgery diseases like appendicitis can provide an improved method to equitably compare patient cohorts and further expand our understanding of surgical decision making and perioperative outcomes
