2024 Course Overview

This is the 38th year of our postgraduate course in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery! Providing a unique function in the CME forum, it involves all of the Boston area medical centers - bringing together highly distinguished faculty, including leaders in the field who are recognized authorities on the national and international scale. The Linton Lecture, an ever-popular highlight of the course, will be presented this year by Dr. Michael Conte of the University of California, San Francisco.

The course is a focused, up-to-date approach on topics of keen interest in vascular disease, including patient assessment by vascular surgeons and other vascular specialists. Talks provide perspectives on optimal approaches to evaluation, diagnosis and management (including technical performance in ‘How I Do It’ sessions) and offer specific evidence-based treatment options for a wide array of vascular problems. Additionally, we’ll address and discuss many existing controversies in the field.

Learnings can translate into improved patient outcomes through a better understanding of pathogenesis, the diagnosis and natural history of the disease processes and how to select the optimal methodology for treatment. Register Today!

Learning Objectives

The specialty of vascular surgery has evolved dramatically, but never more profoundly than in recent years. In view of the rapid development of novel, evolving technologies, the generation of information at a rate faster than at any time in history, and the unprecedented increases in population health concerns around circulatory disease, there has never been a more challenging time to be a vascular surgeon… or a time when it has been more critical to keep abreast of developments in the field! Optimize carotid artery disease management.

Evaluate carotid stenting and endarterectomy.

Apply aortic aneurysm assessment guidelines.

Manage endoleak after EVAR.

Integrate evidence for venous insufficiency and thrombosis care.

Assess and treat lower extremity ischemia.

Choose between endovascular and open surgical therapies for peripheral artery occlusive disease.

Minimize X-ray radiation exposure using effective methodologies.

This course has a focused emphasis on the NBE examination format covering the entire field of Echocardiography including ultrasound physics, 2D and M-Mode, hemodynamics, valvular heart disease, ischemic heart disease, heart failure and cardiomyopathies, pericardial disease, congenital heart disease, and newer imaging techniques including strain and 3-D echocardiography. Well-known experts and recognized educators, comprised of Mayo Clinic faculty in each field of echocardiography will give in-depth didactic lectures pertaining particularly to integration of echocardiographic data into clinical practice. Each lecture will include multiple choice type question and answer sessions facilitated by an audience response system. This course is also an excellent choice for individuals looking to refresh and replenish their echocardiography knowledge as it provides a comprehensive review of echocardiography with pearls and concepts required for the clinical practice of echocardiography.

Mayo Clinic's Updates in Palliative Care is a multidisciplinary CME course designed to build and enhance your palliative care knowledge. Experts from the Mayo Clinic Center for Palliative Care provide clinically relevant pearls for palliative care providers and clinicians from primary care, hematology/oncology, hospital medicine, critical care and related specialties. If you care for patients with serious illness and are looking to broaden your skills beyond the basics, this is the course for you.

Mayo Clinic Healthy Living Program for Physicians 2024 offers 4 sessions, each limited to 12 participants each: March 7-9, 2024; May 2-4, 2024; September 12-14, 2024; or November 7-9, 2024.

There is substantial evidence on the role that diet and nutrition, physical activity and exercise, and resiliency plays in preventing and treating chronic diseases and improving quality of life. Traditional CME courses use a classroom-based format to educate healthcare providers in these areas. However, it is challenging for people to make beneficial lifestyle behavior changes, and education by itself doesn’t necessarily promote behavior change. This course is experiential as well as educational. It is based on The Mayo Clinic Healthy Living Program, a program designed to help people make beneficial lifestyle behavior changes. In this course, attendees learn about lifestyle medicine, and actively participate in classes designed to help create an individualized wellness plan. Learning in this personal manner helps participants counsel patients on making these same healthy behavior changes.

1. Recognize the relationship between health behaviors, chronic disease, and the quality of life

2. Assess patient wellness in their own clinical practice

3. Employ wellness concepts in their own life

4. Demonstrate how to track health behaviors
