  • The AAST aims to provide a comprehensive learning experience that enables Acute Care Surgery fellows to become competent and skilled surgeons capable of practicing with the highest ethical and professional standards.

    We strive to provide tools necessary to prepare fellows for successful careers in modern surgery as well as establish an invaluable, life-long network of colleagues who share their career aspirations and interests.

    AAST fellow education is developed by leaders in the field who are passionate about their work and want to impart their experiences to support the next generation of acute care surgeons,

    In addition, all approved AAST fellowship programs work together to build a curriculum that covers core topics that every Acute Care Surgeon needs to know to be successful.

    The fellow education resources are available ONLY to ACS Fellows.

    Education Modules

    This robust curriculum exposes fellows to a series of courses that trains surgeons to perform advanced and complex cases in various areas. Education Modules are available at any time through the AAST website.

    Meet the Mentors

    Meet the Mentors provides the opportunity for fellows to interact and network with top surgeons and learn from their wealth of experience. These sessions take place on Tuesdays at 3pm ET/2pm CT/1pm MT/12pm PT. More information is distributed to fellows as mentors are scheduled.

    Journal Club

    The monthly Journal Club takes place on the first Tuesday of each month and highlights innovative procedures and technologies, examines current controversies in treatment, and provides updates on the latest advances in the understanding and treatment of disease.

    AAST Annual Meeting

    As the premier academic trauma surgery organization in the United States with over 1,700 members from 30 countries, the AAST hosts an annual meeting in September. The conference attracts around 750 professionals and offers the opportunity for ACS Fellows to hear the latest on the treatment of various forms of trauma and the application of surgical critical care and expand their professional networks.
