Case Study #1:

16 yo with humeral neck fracture at an adult trauma center had a delay of transfer, causing delay in care since adult orthopedic surgeons are not comfortable with growth plate fractures.  Discussion on care collaboration with pediatric trauma centers for specialized pediatric care.
  • Does raising age at pediatric centers make sense?

  • Should adult and pediatric trauma specialists have privileges at all centers? This issue also includes other specialists like vascular and ophthalmology, for whom adult specialists are needed at pediatric trauma centers. Regional or system-level care coordination is necessary.
