Advances national and global disaster preparedness through education, research, and advocacy. Develops practical guidelines and resources to support surgeons and hospitals in mass casualty response, surge planning, and crisis leadership.
Promotes equity, representation, and belonging within AAST and trauma care. Leads initiatives that expand access, strengthen workforce diversity, and integrate DEI principles into leadership, education, and professional development.
The Educational Development Committee oversees and advances AAST’s educational portfolio, including Virtual Grand Rounds, annual meeting courses, ROBO-TRACS, patient education content, and learning management system activities.
Leads development of tools and resources for EGS programs, including verification FAQs and a growing repository of practice management guidelines to support EGS care delivery.
Informs AAST members and leadership on economic factors impacting acute care surgery. Focus areas include financial toxicity, workforce issues, professional development, and billing and coding.
Strengthens AAST’s global engagement through international collaborations, mentorship programs, visiting professorships, and educational events, serving as AAST’s liaison to international trauma societies.
Bridges military and civilian trauma care through education on combat operations, partnerships, and military-focused initiatives, including the Fallen Surgeons Education Symposium and Frontline Surgery podcast.
Facilitates investigator-initiated, multi-center research collaborations. Supports projects such as the Sounding Board, study development initiatives, and the AAST Current Practice Consensus Group.
Advances integration of palliative care in trauma and acute care surgery. Develops Goals of Care documents and collaborates on webinars and annual meeting educational sessions.
Leads education for adult trauma centers to take care of children. Projects include grand rounds, lunch session, educational modules for the acute care fellowship, guidelines, and updating the website with links and content.
