AAST 2025/2026 ROBO-TRACS

AAST is announcing the call for applications for the 2025 to 2026 Robotic Training program for Acute Care Surgery fellows (ROBO-TRACS). This program will be in partnership with Intuitive Surgical, Inc.  The 8-month program will include a monthly live webinar series led by national leaders in ACS robotics, robotic simulation exercises, and funding to attend a live hands-on ACS robotics course at an Intuitive training facility:

  • Online modules with the Xi training platform
  • Simulation skills training and home institution case requirements
  • Live webinars mentored by experts in the field
  • Hands on course (funded through AAST) at Intuitive training center (date: April 23 or 24, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia)
  • Travel funding to attend the hands-on course will be provided by AAST

A maximum of 30 participants will be selected. Applicants should be current fellows in either a one or two year fellowship program in surgical critical care, trauma, and/or acute care surgery.

The application will open on Friday, October 3rd and will close on Friday, October 24, 2025.  Notification of acceptance will occur 1-2 weeks after the close of applications.

The Grant* will include the following:

  • Travel and Lodging up to $800
  • Ground transportation
  • All food

*Please note, you will need to disclose this grant on any conflict of interest forms you fill out for any journal manuscripts, meeting attendance, etc.

Application requirements:

  1. Currently enrolled in a one or two year fellowship in any combination of surgical critical care, trauma, or acute care surgery
  2. Access to a da Vinci Xi or dV5 System and simulator (preferably with dual consoles)
  3. Has at least one Acute Care Surgery mentor attending credentialed in robotic surgery and currently performing robotic acute care surgery cases
  4. Able to complete at least 10 robotic cases as a primary console surgeon
  5. Able to attend all webinars and the in-person hands-on skills day**

**Failure to attend all webinars and the hands-on training day will result in disenrollment from the program
