  • Online Abstract Submission

The abstract system is now closed for 2010!

Please note that all communications regarding abstract submissions and acceptance will be via email. It is imperative that the corresponding author's e-mail address remains current so that miscommunications can be avoided.

  • NOTE: Your abstract may be selected for publication in the Journal of Trauma. The Journal requires compliance with the following guidelines for publication.

    1. Clearly state the purpose of your study and include a brief description of the methods used. Provide actual data and, if available, a summary of the results. Abstracts that promise to explain the importance of the work during the presentation will not be considered.
    2. Abstracts submitted in any fashion other than electronically via the AAST website will not be considered.
    3. The material covered by a submitted abstract should be original and should not have been presented at another meeting (exceptions are made in the case of data that have been or will be presented in preliminary form at the Resident Paper Competition or the Surgical Forum of the American College of Surgeons --assuming the manuscript has not been published in a journal).
    4. List authors with their academic degree. Place an asterisk (*) after the name(s) of Association Fellows. If no author is a Fellow of the Association, a sponsoring member must be listed separately.
    5. Complete all requested fields. CAPITALIZE the entire title. Clearly indicate one category and the status of the first author. Be certain to list the complete mailing address including name, institution, mailing address, city, state, zip code, telephone number, fax number and e-mail address of the individual to whom all correspondence is to be addressed. If the contact information changes, please notify the Recorder’s office of the new contact for future correspondence or revise your abstract using the Online Submission System. If the address section is not completed accurately, the abstract will not be considered.
    6. Type the abstract in the box provided on abstract sheet. TEXT MUST BE ONE AND ONE-HALF OR DOUBLE SPACED. Tabular material may be singled spaced. Text characters must be at least 11pt Times New Roman font. DO NOT INCLUDE TITLE OR AUTHOR INFORMATION IN THE ABSTRACT TEXT!
    7. IMPORTANT: If you indicate that your paper is to be considered for oral presentation only, it will not be considered for poster presentation. In choosing your category, be aware that papers submitted in the Critical Care Section may be considered for presentation as part of the main program or as part of a session emphasizing surgical critical care.
    8. A manuscript suitable for publication in the Journal of Trauma must be submitted online to the Journal of Trauma  prior to the time of oral presentation, and the material should not have been submitted to any other journal. The manuscript will be considered for publication in the Journal of Trauma but, if rejected, will be returned to the authors.
