Based on the Mayo Clinic Healthy Living Program, this experiential program is designed to help people make beneficial lifestyle behavior changes. In this course, attendees learn about lifestyle medicine, and actively participate in classes designed to help create an individualized wellness plan. Learning in this personal manner helps participants counsel patients on making these same healthy behavior changes.
A published study of the impact of the program has shown that there was a significant improvement in management of stress, levels of energy at work and home, and burnout in attendees that persisted for 6 months post program. Confidence to follow a healthy diet was significantly improved, frequency of continuing to lead an active lifestyle increased, and confidence to counsel patients on healthy lifestyle significantly increased.
Learning Objectives- Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
1. Recognize the relationship among health behaviors, chronic disease, and quality of life
2. Assess patient wellness in their own clinical practice
3. Employ wellness concepts in their own life
4. Demonstrate how to track health behaviors

This course will provide evidence-based strategies to address frequently encountered medically unexplained conditions. We will begin with a thorough discussion of the pathophysiological process of central sensitization; this will be followed by lectures focusing on specific medically unexplained conditions and symptoms. Each topic will utilize didactic sessions, case vignettes, clinical pearls, helpful tips, and formal Q/A sessions. Breakfast and Break with the Experts will also be provided to allow for additional discussion. Furthermore, this course will include an optional afternoon session focusing on burnout, wellness, resilience, and mindfulness.
Optional Workshop- Burnout, Well-Being, and Resiliency: Tips to Care for You and Your Patients will discuss the benefits of a healthy lifestyle for both the patient and the healthcare professional. Explore how healthy lifestyle behaviors reduce burnout and increase resiliency. Review the risk of burnout in the healthcare team and the impact on patient care. Didactic and hands-on education include SMART techniques to improve resiliency, wellness coaching strategies, mindful experiences, and more.

This course will be focused on heart failure seen in daily clinical practice. The program will be primarily case based with a few supplemental lectures covering the bread and butter for heart failure, novel therapies, hospital readmission and advanced heart failure.
