The Pediatric Surgery Subtrack of the AAST Acute Care Surgery fellowship is sponsored in conjunction with the American Pediatric Surgical Association.
The goal of the subtrack is to provide additional exposure to pediatric trauma and urgent pediatric surgical problems. Participating fellows will have additional pediatric critical care rotations, exposure to pediatric trauma resuscitations and procedure-based competency in core urgent and emergent pediatric surgeries. Additionally, fellows will receive exposure to vascular access and ECMO in infants and children. Upon graduation, fellows will have special expertise in pediatric trauma resuscitations and the acute management of pediatric surgical problems.
This subtrack is ideal for Acute Care Surgeons who anticipate caring for pediatric patients as part of their trauma practice, for those who practice in rural areas with limited pediatric surgical availability and for surgeons who anticipate providing care in deployed environments.

Burn Surgery Subtrack - in Association with the American Burn Association

The Burn surgery subtrack of the AAST Acute Care Surgery fellowship is sponsored in conjunction with the American Burn Association.
The goal of the subtrack is to provide additional expertise in the resuscitation and acute management of patients suffering thermal burns. The burn curriculum is incorporated into the existing two year fellowship and will include additional exposure to burn intensive care unit management, resuscitation of major burns, excision and grafting of major burns and management of burns to the hands and face. Additionally, fellows will receive directed instruction on the management of major electrical injuries, inhalation injuries and the outpatient care of burns and chronic wounds. Upon completion, the graduation certificate will indicate special expertise in burn resuscitation.
This subtrack is ideal for Acute Care Surgeons with additional interest in the management of thermal injuries including surgeons anticipating military deployments, surgeons practicing in remote environments and those who will participate in burn care within trauma centers.
