    Learning Objectives:

    The objective of this study is to assess the relationship between surgical stabilization of rib fractures in trauma patients and length of operation, number of ribs repaired, prolonged mechanical ventilation, pneumonia, tracheostomy, length of stay and mortality.

    Impact Statement:

    The optimal timing of surgical stabilization of rib fractures (SSRF) remains debated. To our knowledge, this is the first multi-center study to evaluate the optimal timing of SSRF and conclude that earlier fixation is associated with less operative time and more favorable clinical outcomes.
