Urban Level I Trauma Center in Chicago with an active Surgical Critical Care Service providing consults on all SICU admissions. Interdisciplinary format with full surgical resident support. One year ACGME Approved Surgical Critical Care/Trauma Focused University of Illinois Sponsored Fellowship. Applicants: Candidates who have completed residencies in general surgery Start Date: July 1, of each year. Advocate Illinois Masonic is an urban Level I trauma center with 280 beds providing trauma coverage to the northern third of Chicago. Approximately 22% of the admissions are secondary to penetrating trauma. The SICU is a mixed 12 bed unit housing patients from the Trauma Service, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Cardio thoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, ENT/, Plastics, Urology, and Obstetrics-Gynecology services. Your educational experience is under two experienced full time and one part-time board certified attending surgical intensivists. A very hands on approach to surgical critical care is emphasized as one progresses through the comprehensive surgical critical care curriculum.
