    Description: The Division of Trauma/Critical Care Surgery of Indiana University has established an ACGME accredited Surgical Critical Care Fellowship offering three positions since 2007. A multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional program has been developed to take advantage of the many tertiary referral medical centers in the Indiana University system. Three institutions make up the critical care experience concentrating on training clinical, administrative and academic skills. The fellowship program is based at Indiana University Hospital where the case mixed index is consistently ranked in the top 3 in the nation. Fellows rotate through 2 Level I trauma hospitals. Indiana University Methodist Hospital is the primary Level I trauma center located in the Indianapolis downtown area serving as the principal referral institution in the state of Indiana admitting more than 4000 patients/yr. Wishard Memorial Hospital, an urban Level I trauma and regional burn center, primarily serves Marion County also providing a trauma/emergency surgery exposure. Thus, surgical critical care fellows are afforded training in a variety of environments including indigent care, private practice and university settings. Research opportunities are available in both clinical and basic science areas.
