A one year, ACGME accredited experience in Surgical Critical Care, with a substantial volume of trauma and emergecy general surgical conditions. It is anticipated that the Fellowship will transition to an AASTapproved, two year, Acute Care Surgery Fellowship in 2014. The majority of training takes place at the main Medical Center campus located approximately 20 miles outside Chicago but also involves rotations at the Hines VA Medical Center which is contiguous with the Loyola campus.The core experience occurs in the adult Surgical Critical Care units which treat patients from a wide variety of general surgery and sub-specialty services, Opportunities for experience are also provided in the Burn Center, Pediatric ICU, Cardiothoracic ICU, Neurosurgical ICU, MICU and CCU. Off campus electives at other Institutions locally or nationally can be arranged. All key faculty are fellowship trained and posess a Certificate of Added Qualification in Surgical Critical Care from the American Board of Surgery. Abundant opportunities for clinical, outcomes, systems, basic science and translational research exist in our well funded Burn and Shock Trauma Institute as well as elsewhere on the Medical Center campus. Pursuit of advanced degrees such as Phd, MPH, MBA, etc. is encouraged and available through Loyola University or other Institutions. |
