Description: |
We offer 2 positions for the AAST 2 year fellowship and 1 position for a 1 year SCC fellowship. The first year of each fellowship is the same. During this year, fellows rotate through the Trauma Intensive Care Unit, General Intensive Care Unit, and Trauma Stepdown Unit at Regional One Health in Memphis, Tennessee. The fellows will manage critically ill patients in the ICU, participate in operative cases, and manage resuscitations in shock trauma. Electives available for fellows to rotate through include: burn, pediatric trauma at LeBonheur Pediatric Hospital, Neurocritical care, cardiovascular critical care, and a prehospital elective. Fellows are expected to participate in a research or quality project.
During the AAST approved second year, fellows will function as a junior attending and integrate into the attending call schedule on the trauma service. The fellow will rotate in cardiac and vascular surgery for two months, and have the opportunity to participate in electives if desired. Fellows will have the ability to complete research projects, improve their clinical judgement, and participate in administration necessary to become an academic trauma surgeon.
The Elvis Presley Trauma Center admits approximately 5000 trauma patients per year. We have a 25-30% penetrating index. The fellows perform 400 cases per year. The center has four trauma and emergency operating rooms located next to the 22-bed Trauma Intensive Care Unit. This is located down the hall from Shock Trauma and the Trauma Emergency Room. |
