    Vision: All healthcare providers involved in the acute care of the injured will have access to adequate resources, a forum for collaborative interaction, and models for effective programmatic development in injury/ violence prevention.

    Mission: To combine the resources of the major professional organizations addressing the acute healthcare needs of the injured (AAST, COT, EAST and STN) to promote collaborative efforts and develop effective strategies in injury/ violence prevention while minimizing redundant and duplicative activities.

    American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons/Orthopaedic Trauma Association
    The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) is the professional organization of orthopaedists——the medical doctors who specialize in bones, muscles, and joints. An orthopaedic surgeon is a medical doctor with extensive training in the diagnosis and non-surgical as well as surgical treatment of the musculoskeletal system.

    Orthopaedic surgeons would rather keep your bones strong than put them back together again. With 38,000 members, AAOS is the premier not-for-profit organization that provides education programs for orthopaedic surgeons and allied health professionals, champions the interests of patients and advances the highest quality musculoskeletal health. The Academy is the authoritative sources of orthopaedic information for patients and the general public on musculoskeletal conditions, treatments and related issues.

    The American Trauma Society is dedicated to the elimination of needless death and disability from injury. For over 45 years, ATS has served as an advocate for the trauma care system, trauma prevention programs, and the victims of trauma and their families throughout the United States. Our goals are to prevent injury whenever possible, and to ensure optimal treatment of trauma when it does occur.  Excellent trauma care relies on an optimally functioning trauma system. It requires a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to the care of the victim. The ATS provides critical information on trauma to its members, to policy makers, and to the public, all while supporting the needs of families.  It is a strong supporter of injury prevention, creating and producing programs in an effort to reduce the impact of morbidity and mortality on our nation.

    The Trauma Center Association of America (TCAA) is a non-profit 501c6 trade association dedicated to securing the economic viability of trauma centers and systems across the country. The Association’s mission is to foster the development of a national system of trauma care so that access to excellent care for the seriously injured is assured. We are the voice for trauma centers on Capitol Hill and across the country. TCAA is the premier source for trauma center information. Members receive individualized advice from the nation's most experienced consultants in trauma center operations, finance, and trauma systems. TCAA houses an extensive data warehouse to support the fiscal viability and operational sustainability of America’s trauma centers.

    The Safe States Alliance is a national non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and professional association whose mission is to strengthen the practice of injury and violence prevention. Our vision is to be the recognized leader and driving force in understanding and preventing injuries and violence. To advance our mission and vision, the Safe States Alliance engages in activities that include:

    Increasing awareness of injury and violence throughout the lifespan as a public health problem;
    Enhancing the capacity of public health agencies and their partners to ensure effective injury and violence prevention programs by disseminating best practices, setting standards for surveillance,      conducting program assessments, and facilitating peer-to-peer technical assistance;
    Providing educational opportunities, training, and professional development for those within the injury and violence prevention field;
    Collaborating with other national organizations and federal agencies to achieve shared goals;
    Advocating for public health policies designed to advance injury and violence prevention;
    Convening leaders and serving as the voice of injury and violence prevention programs within state health departments; and
    Representing the diverse professionals that make up the injury and violence prevention field.

    • ThinkFirst
    The ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Foundation’s evidence based programs help people learn to reduce their risk for injury.  The ThinkFirst Foundation provides chapter training to injury prevention coordinators and educators at hospitals and other health-related facilities. Chapters provide presentations to schools and community events, teaching students of all ages about the brain and spinal cord and the importance of making safe choices to prevent traumatic injury. Health care presenters and ThinkFirst VIP speakers, who have sustained a brain or spinal cord injury, present general injury prevention programs and topic-specific programs, such as concussion awareness, traffic safety, bicycle helmet use.


    Injury Prevention Coordinators Symposium/Summit

    The Coalition held a Injury Prevention Coordinators Symposium in September 2014 during the 73rd Annual Meeting of AAST & Clinical Congress of Acute Care Surgery. A second symposium will be held again in conjunction with the 74th AAST Annual Meeting on September 9, 2015 at the Wynn in Las Vegas, NV.
