    • Make sure to check out the latest #TurnoverTime on Twitter, featuring Dr. Emily Esposito, where she discusses "Factors Associated With Stroke Formation in Blunt Cerebrovascular Injury: An EAST Multicenter Study."  
    • We had a successful webinar on everything you need to know about applying to surgical critical care and acute care surgery fellowships with fresh, new perspectives. The talk has been archived online so make sure to watch it if you haven't already.
    • The AAST AM sponsored Grand Rounds for the larger AAST community occurred in April, focused on the Modern Surgical Family, and featured associate members including Alex Brito, Linda Dultz, Rachel Warner, Ryan Dumas, and Jason Butler with Patricia Martinez-Quinones as moderator.
    • Our collaboration with SCCPDS and EAST in creating the updated handbook for future fellows on how to navigate fellowship is underway - be on the lookout for it this summer!
    • Another edition of Forks and Things was released last week thanks to Tanya Anand and Saskya Byerly - make sure to check out the content on Twitter where the BIG algorithm for TBI management is discussed.

    • Congratulations to Drs Rebecca Maine, Anupamaa Seshadri, Alison Smith, and John Kubasiak who were selected as recipients of 2022 AAST research scholarships!
    • Our associate member donation incentive program continues to be successful. This quarter two associate members who donate to the research and education fund will be selected to receive a mentor session with Drs. Dissanaike and Bernard.

    Communications and Social Media Chair Updates:

    If you haven't already, update your information in the associate member directory. This directory gives members opportunities to collaborate on multicenter studies, and research projects, and to reach out to other members at institutions where you may be interested in discussing fellowship or a new faculty position.     • The latest Happy hour in May was a hit and congratulations to our bingo prize winners! Keep your eyes peeled for info about our Happy Hour at the annual meeting this year!
    • Did you receive your new scrub cap in the mail? Make sure to take pictures of you wearing the scrub cap and post them on Twitter with the hashtag #AASTswagchallenge (or can send them to julia.coleman@cuanschutz.edu to post for you!).
    • Our weekly Twitter postings schedule has increased traffic through our website - make sure to check out #membershipmonday, #teachingtuesday, #whatsnewwednesday, #teaserthursday, and #fundingfriday.
    • The Communications Committee is doing an "audit" of our website - ever had issues navigating the website or have feedback about its layout? Email julia.coleman@cuanschutz.edu or brea.sanders@aast.org with feedback.

    Call for Nominations for the Associate Member Council:
     
    Associate members may self-nominate or nominate another associate member. Videos from current position holders are linked below. The following positions are available for nomination:
    • Vice-Chair: responsible for membership recruitment and serves on the AAST Membership Committee
    • Secretary: responsible for keeping official associate member minutes and records
    • Communications/Social Media Councilor: manager of associate member communications and serves on the AAST Communications Committee
    Qualifications for Nomination
    • Must be an AAST Associate Member 
    • Must remain an Associate Member for the elected term
    • For vice-chair, this includes your term as president, i.e. must be eligible for 4 years of associate membership. Please see Section II for additional details.
    • Must have been an Associate Member for at least 6 months.
    • All positions except the vice-chair and chair are open to all associate members. The vice-chair and chair must have served 2 years on the Associate Member Council and be an attending or a fellow in training (surgical critical care or acute care surgery). 
    Nominations must include the following:
    • Name
    • Title
    • Contact Information
    • Associate Member Type (Resident, In-Training Fellow, Attending)
    • Position for Nomination
    • Personal Statement (500 words or less)
    • Photo (will not be used during the election)
    • CV
    Action Items: Important Dates to Remember:
    • June 1 - July 15: Call for Nominations Open to the Associate Membership
    • July 21 - August 5: Voting Begins
    • August 12: *Runoffs 
    * To be elected, a candidate must receive over 50% of the available votes. Available votes are defined as all votes that are submitted. If a candidate in an open position does not receive 50% of the available votes, a runoff between the top two candidates will take place.
