- 2019 AAST Research and Education Scholarship Applications
The AAST scholarship application site will begin accepting application in October for Research and Education Scholarships in Trauma Critical Care and Emergency General Surgery. There are three $50,000 scholarships available for 2019. The deadline for applications submission is February 1, 2019 at 11:59 PM (all US time zones). - 2019 Health Policy Scholarship
The American College of Surgeons and the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma are offering an annual scholarship to subsidize attendance and participation in the Executive Leadership Program in Health Policy and Management at Brandeis University. The course takes place June 2-8, 2019. The award is in the amount of $8,000, to be used toward the cost of tuition, travel, housing, and subsistence during the period of the course. - 2019 ACS/AAST International Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to surgeons specifically working in acute care surgery: trauma and emergency general surgery in countries other than the U.S. and Canada to improve the quality of acute care surgical services. Preference will be given to applicants from developing nations. The scholarship, in the amount of $5,000, provides the scholar with an opportunity to attend the annual meeting of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) in Dallas, TX, September 18–19, 2019, and to visit one or two Level I Trauma Centers and/or the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) headquarters at the American College of Surgeons in Chicago, IL, to learn about the standards for a trauma program/database and the importance of multidisciplinary Acute Care surgery care.
The awardee will receive gratis registration to the annual meeting of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma and to one available postgraduate course at the meeting. Assistance will be provided to obtain preferential housing in economical hotels in the AAST meeting and Trauma Center/TQIP cities. Hotel and travel expenses will be the responsibility of the awardee, to be funded from the scholarship award.

- Membership Dues/Journal of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Subscriptions
2019 AAST membership renewal notices will be emailed/mailed out starting in October, and we want to remind everyone that membership dues include a subscription to the JTACS. All membership dues must be paid by January 1, 2019. Please note: dues and subscription payments received after December 1, could result in a temporary interruption of your subscription. If you do renew on time, but find that you have stopped receiving issues, please contact the AAST Central Office immediately. If you have any questions regarding your subscription, please email Jermica Smith or contact by phone at 312.202.5553.
We would also like to encourage members to update their contact information on the renewal notices. Membership dues can be paid online. - Critical Care Committee Survey
On behalf of the AAST Critical Care Committee and researchers at Oregon Health & Science University, we have designed a brief survey investigating the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) at trauma centers.
We would appreciate you taking 5 minutes to complete the survey, as your participation is essential to understanding emerging ECMO needs at trauma centers.
