The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) is looking for volunteers to participate in four strategic retreat initiatives (SRIs) focused on member engagement. These initiatives are:
- Mentoring
- Member Participation/Networking/Member Engagement
- Education
- Communication
Commitment Length
The commitment length for each SRI is two to three years. Volunteers will participate in conference calls and Zoom meetings four to six times per year. Work on specific projects and goals will be done in small groups.
Mentoring
The Mentoring SRI will evaluate the current mentoring programs offered to AAST members and develop new or updated mentoring ideas. The SRI leaders are Rosemary Kozar, MD, PhD and Ryan Dumas, MD.
Member Participation/Networking/Member Engagement
The Member Participation/Networking SRI will discuss additional ways to increase member participation, evaluate current networking opportunities for AAST Fellows and Associate Members, and develop new strategies for additional networking and member participation. The SRI leaders are Joseph DuBose, MD and Rochelle Dicker, MD.
Education
The Education SRI will evaluate whether AAST is focusing on topics that are of interest to members and whether the delivery methods are the optimal method for AAST members. The SRI leader is Matthew Martin, MD (with help from the Education Committee).
Communication
The Communication SRI will conduct a deep dive into AAST communications to determine whether members are reading the paper newsletter, online Cutting Edge newsletter, weekly Week in Review, monthly E-News, grand round notices, and Twitter updates. The SRI leader is Adrian Maung, MD (with help from the Communication Committee).
If you are interested in volunteering for any of these SRIs, please complete the form below.
Your participation will help AAST to better serve its members and improve the field of trauma surgery.
